I'm glad to be a part of it and excited for what's in store for the future of something great. Happy New Year, everyone!
As someone who's always had health insurance, I have absolutely no idea how receiving healthcare works for someone who isn't insured. Do you mind explaining what you did during those 6 years whenever you got sick or needed treatment? EDIT: Also, did not having insurance have an effect on how you lived your life in terms of taking risks and having fun?
hahah, I haven't been to Captain Kidd's in YEARS!
Hahah, I mocked up a site last year in PowerPoint, so, I guess that's a start. As for HTML, I picked some up while I was writing for a blog a while back, but my knowledge is limited to formatting words and images. Also, I checked out your site. You do pretty good work. If I ever need a logo, I know who to call!
Thanks, I'll check the book out. My first thought after submitting my last reply was that money is both the reason why we have the goods and services that we currently do and why a post-scarcity world cannot exist. In such a world, what incentive do people have to produce or give up their ability to profit from it in the first place?
Wow! Thanks for the write up. That's definitely a lot to take in. I think I'm going to jump in this weekend with Learn Python The Hard Way and see where that goes. What's your opinion on Codecademy?
Alright, cool, I'll go ahead and do that, then. Thanks!
More like Person A goes on the site and answers questions, and then Person B goes on the site and does the same. Their answers get put in a database and whenever two people's answers are the same, they're both notified. Something like that. I'll check out Codecademy and start one of their Ruby or Python courses. Thanks! I guess this could also be an app instead of a site. Do you still recommend going the Ruby/Python route if I wanted to create an app?
where can one obtain one of these.....stickers?
I'm down. Bar hopping in DTLA? LA Live? CAPTAIN KIDD'S????? Idk. I wonder who else is from LA here.....
None. I know some SQL, but that's about it. BTW, I moved this over to #learnprogramming at http://hubski.com/pub?id=51408
Followed! Thanks for doing this. First question: If I wanted to create a site that matched up queries from people, where do I start? Which language should I learn first? EDIT: I'll move this over to #learnprogramming
Oh, okay, so if I understand correctly, it's a world in which the basic nessecities for survial are available to and provided for everyone while all other goods and services above that would be subject to scarcity. Isn't that just welfare, but on a much larger scale? Hm, maybe the issue is that --like I just did-- it's called "welafre" rather than a "post-scarcity world in which everything is provided and everyone is better off". Still, I don't think that that's where we're headed. Where would the money come from to pay for all this free stuff?
and another one! Burbank, to be percise.
When you say "post-scarcity world", what exactly do you mean?
I went to CSUN, which is a CalState school in the San Fernando Valley. Everyone's experience there seems to be different, but it's essentially a commuter school, so not many people dorm on campus. The majority of students there are basically all trying to get their degree while holding down a part-time job, meaning they don't like to hang around campus any longer than they absolutely need to. It kinda sucks, but it went by really fast and I got in and out in 4 years with an Econ degree. If I had to do it all over again, I'd probably go to a different school with a more traditiaonl college culture. EDIT:.....and probably study physics.
hah, no problem.
If by "lists" you mean bullet points, they were suggested by user Cortez and noted by thenewgreen, so maybe they'll be added in the near future. EDIT: ah, my reply was too slow by a few minutes. Oh, well, hah
Alright, you got me. I joined up. Now off to explore.....
