Considered by many to be the best 5 string banjo player there ever was or ever will be. When asked about how fast he could play he often said, "It's not how fast but how in time you are". Legend has it that he and his siblings would play a song together on the front steps of their house and then separate and walk around the house in opposite directions and if they were still in time with each other when they met on the other side, they knew they were doing alright.
Most people probably remember him as the guy who wrote/recorded the ballad of Jed Clampett
