Detroit is soon going to be put under the State control of an emergency financial manager. It's probably unconstitutional, but the city is so corrupt and dysfunctional, that it can hardly do any harm. People that work in Detroit, but don't live there (like myself) must pay city taxes. Yet, we cannot vote in Detroit elections. That's probably unconstitutional too. I have a dream of opening a simple manufacturing company in Detroit. Probably textiles. It's a great transportation hub, on a major waterway, and on the border with Canada. People will work hard for reasonable wages.
I spent some time at my sisters over the holiday, she lives in Indian Village which is a neighborhood of beautiful, ornate old homes from the days when Detroit was the wealthiest city on earth. The neighborhood has been well cared for and renovated but is surrounded by... well, Detroit. It's like a safe, beautiful little island in the middle of a war zone. It's very odd.
