One thing that we are always trying to improve on Hubski is content discovery.
To that that end, today we are introducing global chatter.
If you go to your chatter page, you will now see links to global chatter in the upper right. Clicking these links enables you to browse all conversations happening across Hubski, sorted by popularity.
The global feeds are now presented in a similar format in your feed page.
As always, feedback is much appreciated.
I guess I'll play devil's advocate and say I'm not really a fan. Stylistically, the top navigation area seems a bit more cluttered to me now. Functionally, I don't like that when I'm in a post, I no longer have the "global feed" links accessible to me. Really, I don't have any strong feelings about it, it just seems like a minor step back. But that's just me, and I'm sure it relates directly to how each user uses Hubski.
TBH I have thought about the issues you have mentioned, and explored a few different formats before settling on this. You might have noticed that the narrow top bar has become more or less universal in feeds. In some respects, the global links break the functional organization of this menu; information goes on the left, yet the right is a bit less well-defined. It's mostly functional links like follow and ignore, and now these navigation links. It's good, but not great, and is something that I'll be looking to improve as we progress. As for the navigational hierarchy of placing global within the feed and chatter, I understand that it is a bit less convenient for some types of use. I'm not saying that the effect on navigation is intentional, but the effect is has upon conceptual hierarchy is. Thanks for the thoughts.
Nice to see more coherent approach to the site's features. The Feed always felt like the odd one out, with the straightforward chatter and tags. Now chatter can be used just as well as the feed for browsing content. Thanks to this, I've found this post, which I would never have found because I wasn't following anyone in there. Now I am!
Lovely. That was the missing piece of the jigsaw that allows me to expose myself to commentary from people I don't know in topics I might not discover on my own.
Cool, thanks for the update. I just made an account and I'm already loving all of the great discussion on Hubski.
