This popped up in my twitter feed from a guy who used to be a video game journalist https://twitter.com/agentbizzle/status/355036405942059009/ph... I think it's a pretty interesting take on the difference between movie and video game reviewing.
Oh God, as a Chicago...area native and a UIUC students, that just made me miss Roger so much more.
I think there is plenty of good games journalism that has a lot more to say then things looked/sounded good/bad. There is plenty of shitty game journalism as well. I rarely see anyone talk about firmware upgrades unless they had problems, even from ultra technical sources like Maximum PC (but ultra technical performance is why Max PC is on the market, not for it's game reviews). I'd say most good games journalist often bemoan the state of their profession, you don't have to look far to see shallow sexist reviewing, but I think it's a branch of criticism that has come a long way and has a lot of room for growth.
