Lollerskates. What Cozy Bear really needs is the ability to 51% an entire discussion platform. Apropos of nothing, this website made me wonder if there was a buzzword counter. There is! And even though it doesn't recognize "IPFS" this page still rates pretty highly.

Like Martin Niemöller said in his “First they came…” poem, at some point you’ll probably end up being targeted despite not doing anything different than usual.

0-godwin in three paragraphs! Nicely done. I love how the freeze peaches crowd insists that "first they came for the socialists" somehow works for "first they said we couldn't share upskirts and pictures of dead kids" as if we're all on a slippery slope. Niemoller didn't say "first they came for the petty thieves."

I'm baffled with upcoming generations' comfort with government and corporations regulating speech. Probably the last thing I would have expected myself to part company on.

edit: that Konrad von Marburg guy seems like a real dick.

Government has always regulated speech. Corporations have always (will always) been able to regulate speech on their platforms. Your first amendment right to say what you want is predicated on public safety, slander and libel laws and no one has ever had the right to do what they want on someone else's platform.

... but things are going to get really weird when Voat is the only platform that will put up with a large minority of Republican congressmen.

I feel so bad for that site. I joined at the same time as hubski back when it was called whoaverse, and it seemed like a cool hipster Reddit alternative. Went back again last week and it's filled with (((conspiracies))) and outrageously racist and sexist things. Places that pride themselves exclusively on "free speech" seem to devolve into this sort of nonsense by pushing out the people who don't want to bother putting up with it.

If they didn't set out to build a community of all the users who were too big a pain in reddit's ass to be ignored they must have realized that's what they were doing in the first year. I find it hard to be sympathetic.
