I know a guy who smoked some salvia, thinking it was weed. Scared the absolute crap out of him, and his wife and kid - he totally freaked for a little while, I assume because he wasn't expecting it. We didn't figure out what had happened until the next day.
Never tried it myself, but there are some pretty funny salvia clips on Youtube.

Yeah, it would not be a good thing if you didn't know what was about to come. People all react differently to it. I know some who have just giggled like a crazy lunatic and others who have claimed some interesting visuals. I am generally pretty introverted and so I go into a special place in my mind when I do it.
