I just accidentally clicked both "follow" and "filter" for the #sciencefiction tag. As a result, the tag page no longer offers me either the "unfollow" nor the "unfilter" options.

Go to your user account and click on your settings. On the bottom left of the page, you'll see all of your filters. Click on your filtered tags, find the one that's causing you problems and click "un-filter." Maybe that'll work?
mk gave me a direct link and that fixed it, but I never realized that on the settings page, the numbers are a link to the actual filter list. People who use CSS to remove the underline from links should be drawn and quartered. >:-( The filter list is not, as your post implies, on the settings page itself.
