Woo, now it all goes by truck, more of it spills, and a few people get to be happy because they think they helped prevent global warming even though just as much oil is going to end up being burned!

Well, trucks, and the Keystone pipeline, which already exists...

It's amazing to me that this subject is always framed as "should we build a pipeline", when we already did, and now we're just looking at expanding it.

I once read that a large part of the issue was the actual drilling for the oil, something to do with sands, and how much environmental damage that caused. The pipeline would apparently encourage this drilling.. man, i don't know.

If we want to help the environment, we can fund the development of green tech. We can push forward taxes on pollution that distributes the damages on the companies that release the CO2, and cause product prices to reflect the pollution they cause. We can do one of a hundred thousand things.

Killing our ability to transport oil, stopping the building of pipelines, will do nothing of worth, and is a bunch of political bolstering. Yeah, it won't make any jobs, and it won't take any jobs, it won't be significantly harmful to the environment. Who cares?!? This is as stupid as the republicans opposing every last thing the democrats do just because they are the other party.
