Well, I can't stand Krugman, that's my first thought. I would recommend reading the piece that he wrapped his opinions around instead. But, it sounds like it's something worth having in place. Let banks speculate on less secure derivatives without the guaranty of the FDIC. When I speculate on an investment, the government isn't there backing up my dollar. If it were, I'd be far less risk averse and that's not a behavior we want to encourage in our banking institutions.
