Square curbs on roads.

Because I lost my first car to those fuckers after clutching out too fast around a corner.

FUCK. SQUARE. CURBS.

Sticking this, try and make it br00tz, TNG, so I can add my own ideas to it this time. :) (no pressure, I just play an ENTIRELY different genre from your own [although freely admitting that I think you're more talented than myself] and I'd love to contribute to the Hubski songs you post up on occasion [if this is one of those])

Otherwise, I look forward to hearing what you've thought up, I'm sure it'll be a feast for the eardrums :D

Fluffy017  ·  3190 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: The 2015 Morale Menagerie - Check-in (1st of August)

Well, as some of the guys in IRC might know, I went to Atlanta last week, and got to witness my best friend from childhood tie the knot (and knowing he was still strictly abstinent, got to rib him at the reception for finally catching up to those of us that deviated from that path ;P)

Although the trip had it's hiccups (like staying in what we later found out was a prostitute den in Douglasville, to a hotel losing our reservations) my best friend in Houston and I definitely had fun getting out of our element (and doing a rather awesome zombie apocalypse D&D style campaign the whole drive there and back, which is still ongoing)

Upon arrival back in Houston, I discovered that another friend of mine (who'd known that I'd be out of town for my birthday, which also happened last Saturday) has now planned a trip to Dallas next month, that will involve getting INCREDIBLY hammered with some of his friends, so we can play lots of Magic, have general shenanigans, and forget that I'm 23 and still unable to find stable employment, albeit only for a while.

TL;DR Atlanta was awesome, now trying to make the best of the sticky situation I find myself in.

If you're dating inside your age bracket, use the term "Netflix and chill" sparingly; usually implies you're looking for nothing more than a one night stand.

Not that there's anything wrong with those.

Hey guys check out this DOPE techdeathgrinddjentcoreband, also what are the advantages of a silver standard over gold?

So how does this encourage healthy discussion, exactly? All I see is free ad space for a website I know nothing about.

I really loved our conversation in IRC, glad I could see all this laid out.

Waiting (impatiently) for part two!

Fluffy017  ·  3209 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Hubski, where do you want to live?

Alright, so I'm about to get a little weird with this, but Saturn.

I know, I know, Saturn is a gas giant, it doesn't actually have a "surface", per se, but hear me out.

As a guitarist, I've had quite a humongous pedalboard at multiple points in my musical adventure. But one thought always struck me: sound needs a medium to travel through (which, 99.99999999999999999...etc% of the time, is air), so with that in mind, how would music sound on other planets? What if different atmospheric attributes made all music on one planet have a "distortion" effect, while music on another got a "phase shifter" or "chorus" effect, simply because of what's in the air?

Like Venus, which has a hellish landscape to say the least, and atmospheric makeup of mostly nitrogen and CO2, or maybe Neptune, which has an atmospheric composition of helium, hydrogen, and methane. I mean, how would metal, or jazz, or even rap sound on these planets?

So with that in mind, I'd like to live on Saturn, because it shares similarities with Neptune, being made up of mostly nitrogen and helium, and it looks freaking beautiful to boot.

Probably not the answer OP was looking for, but I've always wondered about stuff like this :P

Fluffy017  ·  3209 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: What do you do, Hubski?

Think lower.

Like, WAY lower. East Texas lower :P

I do appreciate the offer though, CNC machinists are worth their weight in GOLD and I wish I could find a place that would train me on them!

Gaaaaaah I have nothing to drink.

Oh well, guess I'll lurk in IRC anyway :D

Fluffy017  ·  3210 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: What do you do, Hubski?

I have the title of Machine Operator, which basically means I can work with any kind of specialized heavy machinery in a factory setting.

Although I've widened my search to pretty much ANYTHING in the industrial sector, the process is...pretty slow-going.

Fluffy017  ·  3210 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Nintendo President Satoru Iwata has passed away.

Thanks for helping my childhood be an awesome and memorable experience, Mr. Iwata.

You shall be missed. <3

Often times, in panic, the "fight or flight" response fails to register, often due to moral standings (but what if I go to jail for running someone over?)

This is why I full endorse how the Russians do it: every single one of those fuckers has a dashcam in their vehicle, because if a cop comes knocking if you DO run over an unruly mob that is attempting to do you harm, you have video evidence proving your reason for escalating and exiting the situation.

Alright, I'll be that guy:

If this had happened to me, it would have been handled differently.

One, because my vehicle is an extension of Castle Law in my state, I have the right to protect what's mine.

And two, fuck the red light, if my car is being surrounded by an unruly mob that I feel wishes to harm myself or my loved ones, I'm running their asses over without even batting an eye. Sure, they will get ONE rev of the engine, but if they fail to move after that they're going to learn what pavement and rubber tastes like.

Doesn't matter what race the mob might be, if you wish to do me harm, you should expect to be responded to with harm.

Is it wrong? Maybe. But do I have just as much a right to exit the situation as this hypothetical mob has to entice said situation? Absolutely, and by any means necessary.

I'll don my flameshield now.

I play a fuckton of League of Legends and send my resume to at least 30 places a day.

Fluffy017  ·  3212 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Hubski, what other unique websites should we check out?

It's a site from the 90's.

It doesn't actually DO anything, but it's been up for an eternity, so it's my version of a RickRoll...with added nostalgia :P

Holy fuck, the Curiosity rover has been on Mars for over 11 years...

I wonder if it's possible for a robot to get lonely...

Fluffy017  ·  3212 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Have you ever found out that one or both of your parents cheated?

No, my biological mother and father were very loyal and loved each other.

However, growing up, I've come to realize that my mom was probably a HUGE hippie back in the day. She was always so laid back, it wouldn't surprise me if she had a little pipe hidden somewhere in our old house.

That's not to say she was a bad person, my mom was fucking amazing (may she rest in peace), she could pick up any non-percussion musical instrument and play it damn well within a week, and she worked from home so she'd always beat my video games before I did (despite my insistence not to spoil anything!)

I know this doesn't exactly answer the question, but I guess I have a pretty wide concept of the word "cheated", i.e. my mom was probably an occasional smoker, and my dad served 7 years in the US Coast Guard, so he isn't exactly a huge fan of recreational substance use.

Next year, my sister will be able to legally purchase alcohol in the US. (I'm 23) It's just a bit of shell-shock for me, considering I always see her as my little sister, but she's definitely not little anymore.

Fluffy017  ·  3216 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: How the South Skews America (and reddit skews us all)

It's a pretty simple thought process, admittedly :/ I just think the death penalty is something that should exist, for the worst offenders; mass murderers, serial killers, the REALLY big fish.

My reasoning for this is two-fold: firstly, having been through jail at one point (not sitting out a warrant, but for a moderately severe crime...felony 1A, TL;DR used to sell drugs, got charges dropped and released, got sober.) I KNOW how depressing it can get in a place like that. It sucks, it really does. Some of these worst offenders, twisted as they may be, are still human. They have to live with what they did, every day. Some of them revel in it; worse, they're PROUD of it. And in my personal opinion, if you're proud of dragging some poor soul down a highway with your truck (which is a more unfortunate part of my state's history ), you might just deserve lethal injection.

But still others, that resent their actions and might genuinely regret doing them, well, they WANT to die. This raises a problem, and a solution: it's surprisingly hard to kill yourself in jail (also learned from experience...TL;DR diagnosed major depression for most of my life, jail felt like the final nail in the coffin, made an attempt and failed, got put in solitary for remainder of my stay in county), but the prison also NEEDS to clear spaces for other potential inmates, because crime never sleeps. So if you resent your past transgressions and honestly WISH to die, wouldn't it be nice if the prison-industrial complex would not only let you, but pay your way to do so?

Finally, even in states where the death penalty ISN'T a thing, isn't a life sentence basically the same thing? Currently in the states, we don't view prisons and their ilk as a way of rehabilitating their captives before releasing them back into the world, but as a form of punishment, causing prisoners to resent the very system they were incarcerated by, which leads to repeat offenders (and a rather scary amount of people saying "fuck the police", but that's an entirely different conversation). Is it more human to lock someone away and throw away the key, PERMANENTLY taking US tax dollars to keep them incarcerated in a little cell, where some will ultimately lose any concept of the outside world, succumb to any number of mental illness, and ultimately die of natural causes as a ward of the state? Personally, that sounds just as twisted as the death penalty to the people that argue against it.

Sorry for going on a bit of a rant there, but I do hope I've explained my stance on the matter.
