- They do? Aside from one op ed, written by a former Supreme Court Justice no less, I can't say I've ever heard the media call for the abolition of the second amendment.
To some people, any attempt at reasonable, responsible gun control is perceived as an attempt to tear up the second amendment. We have a smaller problem here in Canada, where any time someone brings up wanting to revamp our gun laws (because there are some nonsensical elements to them), there's a sudden and intense pushback from the gun owning community because they'd rather have the bad gun laws we have than what they perceive as a potential tightening on their hobby.
