I applied out of Uni for a consulting job I wasn't remotely qualified for, lucked myself into an interview, and then clicked with the interviewer on the topic of ballroom dancing. Spent 7 great years at that Company. Second job was from the network I built at my first. I'm just about to move to a new Company for my third role; this time it's a combination of the network I built at my first job and LinkedIn.

I am a proponent of LinkedIn. People see what you say about yourself, but they can also see what others say about you. Definitely helps if, like me, you're a part of a small profession and can't provide references without tipping your hand to your current employer.
