No problem!

I have no idea what inositol is or what it does, it was just in the cheapest Amazon Prime serviced choline bitartrate on Amazon. I've heard about other people taking it on r/nootropics, though.

Pharnaces  ·  3018 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Hubski Update: Expansion of ignoring

Most SRSers are up for thoughtful discourse, if you agree with them. They're very well known on Reddit for invading other subreddits, screaming their ideology, and then ignoring (instead of refuting) anyone who brings up any counterpoints. Maybe hubski will rub off on the current migrants and we'll see them actually participate in thoughtful debate, instead of just "debate," but just be warned that they aren't known for being cooperative.

Yeah, I know. It just seems much more tedious and unreliable as a content aggregation service than Reddit and I think that could be improved with the ability to follow tags or at least put them in the sidebar as bookmarks.

Why is it that you're so concerned with the "trash content" that you have the power to remove from your personal feed?

Well, in general if a site is mostly dedicated to "trash content" then the average user will come here for the lowest common denominator entertainment instead of the thought-provoking discussions the admins want.

There's a picture of a quote that goes around on /v/ (and maybe 4chan in general) from time to time (link:

Any community that gets its laughs by pretending to be idiots will eventually be flooded by actual idiots who mistakenly believe that they're in good company."

   Rene Descartes
It's ironic because the painting in the background is of Voltaire, not Descartes, and Descartes never said anything like that, but despite that it actually is quite relevant to our conversation. If the community here comes here for something other than thought-provoking discussions then eventually the purpose of the site will no longer be to provide them.

Sweet, I'll look into giving Huperzine-A a shot sometime soon.

The first time I felt that really weird phenibut "drunkenness" I thought I just hadn't taken enough, so I took another gram and ended up sleeping for 20 hours straight. I woke up at one point and managed to crawl halfway to the bathroom before falling asleep on the floor. Very powerful stuff.

I take it green tea has a less than optimal l-theanine/caffeine ratio?

Exactly. Black tea is actually better for the l-theanine/caffeine benefits because it's 20mg/14-61mg vs 5-46mg/14-61, where the ranges are highly dependent on the conditions in which the green tea were grown.

You normally want a 4:1 theanine:caffeine ratio, so 800mg of l-theanine for your standard 200mg caffeine pill.

My current regimen:

  2400mg piracetam 3x/day

  400mg choline bitartrate 1x/day

  400mg inositol 1x/day

  800mg l-theanine with 200mg caffeine 3x/day
if I take phenibut I don't take the l-theanine+caffeine combo, because all that happens is that they cancel each other out.

That is entirely accurate, but doing "surprisingly okay" for their situation isn't exactly what I would call good. I watched a documentary on modern Cuba a year or two ago and it was very poor. Crumbling tenements built 30 years ago, junker American cars from the 50s still in use today, nobody has enough food, the health system is good in theory, etc. All in the shadow of the booming tourism industry.

They could be doing a lot better if restrictions on private enterprise were lighter and the embargo was over, the only people hurt by the embargo are the Cuban people.

Am I correct in the assumption that the #shithubskisays tag will parallel the fempire of ShitRedditSays? I'm pretty new to this whole thing.

I'm the one who "broke in the hashtag" here so I'd hope we could stay away from what SRS has become. I think the concept of a place to point out what stupid people say and laugh at them is great (as opposed to #hubskidrama, which is to eat popcorn while watching drama), I don't think a radical feminist hivemind that runs around dox-ing people they don't like is so great.

It'll probably be hijacked by the SRS immigrants, though, and I don't have any control over that.

Do we have any idea who would even succeed him? Are they going to keep it in the family, or maybe have legit elections?

I'm not a follower or a power-user from Reddit, I just came here in search of more meaningful discussions. Did I come too late? ;;

Pharnaces  ·  3019 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Syncretic posts about deleting his reddit account, attracts SRD and circlejerk

Sweet, we've got #hubskidrama and #shithubskisays already, I already feel as at home as I did on Reddit.

Ah, I see. Thanks for explaining.

Pharnaces  ·  3019 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: How do you manage your time?

You might be interested in the Pomodoro Technique. Basically:

  1. Set timer for 20 minutes

  2. Do task

  3. Take 5 minute break when timer rings

  4. Set timer for 20 minutes again

  5. Do task

  6. Take longer break
and you just repeat that until you've finished, with longer and longer breaks. It's an interesting scheme and it works pretty well for a lot of people.

Also, since you're a college student you might want to consider taking various legal drugs to enhance various aspects of your performance (called nootropics). L-theanine 400mg (suntheanine) + caffeine 100-200mg is cheap and provides a huge boost to performance. I use piracetam + choline, l-theanine + caffeine, and phenibut regularly and I've noticed that I get things done much quicker and my memory is very much improved.

Pharnaces  ·  3019 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: How often do you visit hubski?

It may be smaller (~5500 registered users) but the coversations are of higher quality.

Small communities tend to lead to better content, just compare any of the default subs on Reddit to their smaller, more discussion focused equivalents (r/gaming -> r/games and r/truegaming). Hopefully it was stay this way as the community grows.

Pharnaces  ·  3019 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: What's the etiquette on crossposting from reddit and vice versa?

There really shouldn't be any issue with crossposting content. It'd be more frowned on in Reddit because you'd be accused of being a karma-whore, but since there doesn't really seem to be an equivalent of karma here I don't see how that could happen. Just post good content and I think everything will be fine.

Also submit any drama with #shithubskisays!

Great find, I'll try it out.

Pharnaces  ·  3019 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Newbie here - have some suggestions/questions if anyone can help

I still think that having a date on the front page would be helpful. Less people are willing to have a conversation about a 15 day old topic than they are something that happened an hour ago.
