There's an European University in Firenze, Italy, focused on social sciences with an interest in e-democracy and social media: http://www.eui.eu/Home.aspx
Democracy and capitalism were very good concepts, but today with ICT (Information and Communication Technologies) there is so much room for improvement, yet those concepts continue to stand still even in the face of world wide discontent. There is a lot of discussion on what is wrong with capitalism and democracy, but little on proposals to make them better, and practically zero actions taken in this direction. I've always thought reddit, digg, hubski, newsvine, kickstarter, are excellent examples of where new ideas of governance could get inspiration from.
