Our Neanderthal cousins keep surprising us with their abilities. They buried their dead with artifacts which they originally were not supposed to have the capacity for. They made jewelry. Now they are making art . . . maybe. Even if these dates hold up, I was reading recently that homo sapiens were found in the Levant much sooner than originally believed which raises the possibility they were in Europe sooner too (see link below).

It really would be something though if Neanderthals independently developed a form of art similar to homo sapiens on a different continent.

That's one of the cool things about anthropology and archeology and science in general. When we learn and discover new things, it allows us to look at previous discoveries in new light and get a better, clearer picture of what we're looking at.

Some of the you read about in the development of man can be pretty interesting. For example, lactose tolerance is simple and straightforward, but still really cool.

I agree and one of the great things about science and discovery is that the new piece of data and/or the newly refined theory usually raises as many questions as it answers, sometimes more. Which means the inquiry never stops and there will always be more to learn.
