so that's 3 cylinders... I'm curious about fuel efficiency. This is the kind of thing that reminds me that the IC engine doesn't have to die... but it DOES have to get more efficient, powerful, etc.

I love Nissan.

I wonder if it could power a flywheel or a generator to charge batteries like the Volt does.

at 400 bhp - I imagine it could turn just about anything... but at that much power - you'd have to wonder if it would be worth it to convert into electrons.

NOW... if you scaled this thing down to a 1 or 2 cylinder, hyper-efficient range-extender engine in the back of my Leaf.... now we're talking.

Oh. Uh. Hmm. I kind of went into this article expecting to poo-poo on the engine. "The block is too small. It won't hold up to constant use. Blah. Blah. Blah." It's being developed as a racing engine though and that's half the battle (though to be fair racing engines have a way shorter lifespan than commuter engines). It'll be interesting to see where this goes.
