Uh... the people the segments encourage us to laugh at? Sorry, I thought that was clear. Their feelings are no more important to me than any other random person, but--and perhaps this is weird, I guess?--I figure everybody deserves a certain level of basic respectful treatment just for being human. Respect which surely includes not being humiliated on national television by a popular and thus powerful man. A politician or a celebrity signs up for that kind of thing, but people who don't can be driven into depression or even suicide. Not that I think the world should conform to some sort of rounded-corner, step-softly-now social straitjacket. But I've enjoyed watching Jon Stewart expose injustice over the years, and I took him for someone who genuinely cares about people. I would have expected him to frown on this sort of thing. Or at very, very least, maybe not target an eight year old kid.
