As for Canadian politeness, I wonder. Is it related to having been a colony and never significantly rebelling from that status? A general feeling of inferiority on the world stage? Something else?
Maybe something in the air. I can be on a streetcar with every conceivable shade of Canadian - but if I accidentally bump into them - they will apologize as if it was their fault. It's adorable.
