This was so interesting. I really appreciate the Bill Bryson mention. I read A Short History of Nearly Everything when it came out in 2003. It left an indelible impression on me as a young'n and I remember that chapter on the world's worst industrial scientist. Had you read the book before this article?

After such a deep dive, what are your thoughts on the current state of the EPA and environmental protection policy? And while you (rightly) question the methodology the EPA employed when self-rating, you seem to leave most of its assertions intact. Is that an endorsement of the EPA?
