Many athletes thank god when the "mic is shoved in their face" and then they proceed to live a life that is incongruent with the god they thanked. Tebow has been a christian missionary, professed his abstinence till marriage and is very vocal about it on the side lines and in the locker room etc. This is why people "care". The christian community has a guy that actually "walks the walk" in regards to their doctrine. This is a rare thing especially for a good looking Heisman winning quarterback. Temptations abound and I imagine that people think to themselves, "if Tebow can do it, I can too". So the remarkable part isn't that he prays, but that when he's done praying he seems to continue on the "path of christ". -this is unusual.
He's the perfect story for middle America. He's incredibly marketable and it just so happens that he's winning, when frankly he shouldn't be. That's why people are fascinated. I for one look forward to watching the game tonight to see Brady (a Michigan QB) beat him. This isn't about god, it's about football.
