Thanks for the shout-out! I wasn't aware of the newsletter until now. I just signed up. Keep up the good work!
Categories is a suggestion I have gotten from several users. It is a great idea and I will definitely work in implementing it soon. One idea you raised that I hadn't considered is staggering the different wins throughout the day to keep people coming back to the app. That's brilliant. I could keep the notification for the grand lottery and have optional notifications for the categories, so that people don't get notification fatigue. Thanks for this input! I'll add your name to the About page as a thank you! Just let me know if you don't want it there and I'll remove it.
The winner is chosen at random by an automated script so there will be stupid posts. I don't know if there is any good way around it unforunately. Moderating the posts seems to go against the core ideal of the app. I think "stupid" can be subjective and leaving the app truly random allows us to hear people we never would have heard, even if they don't have something profound to say. I think there can be some value in that.
Haha I hadn't thought about it appearing to spell something out. Classical Cryptography is a hobby of mine so I have special appreciation for hidden things like that :-)
Thanks for the code! I'll play around with it.
My God, this is by far the highest quality feedback I have received yet (and I've been consulting a LOT of communities online). Thank you so much for taking the time to lay this out. It will take me some time to consider and process it all but I do take it seriously. As promised I add the usernames of people who provide helpful input to the app's about page (its all I can offer at the moment) and you definitely earned that. If you prefer not to have it there, just let me know and I'll remove it. Thanks again for this amazing critique and information. Also, yes, I really like having the large first letter. What if I was able to make it lay inline instead of on top of the line? I.e. the large letter sits at the beginning of the first two lines. Just thinking off the top of my head. I'd love to find an elegant way to keep the large first letter.
Thanks for the honest input. Do you have ideas for improvements that might make the app more interesting to you and others who will share the same sentiment?
It actually has nothing to do with Einstein. It is written by a reporter who was tasked with covering a memorization tournament. He got interested after interviewing the contestants and started trying it out on his own. He then came back the next year and won the tournament. It is written very much from a layman's perspective. The phrase "moonwalking with Einstein" is an example of one of the memorization techniques.
Anyone interested in the taxi drivers' ability to memorize so much information should read Moonwalking with Einstein. It is an easy read about memorization techniques. Really interesting stuff and you can use it in your every-day life.
I realized I forgot to answer your question. I set the limit at 300 chars, but it was sort of arbitrary.
That's a great idea! It shouldn't be too difficult to implement and would make for much nicer looking messages. I can probably work it into the next update. Thanks!
I love the tiny puzzle idea! It is creative nuances like that that make an app great. That's going on my to-do list!
Thanks for helping validate the concept! The app simply requires the user to press a "Play Now!" button to enter the daily contest, so they need to return each day to re-enter. The message they want to broadcast is saved however, so there is no need to rewrite it unless you want to. If you are interested and use android, please consider downloading it and rating it. This is a side project of mine and ratings make a big impact on who else might see it.
Haha hopefully not too much spam... Regulating bots is a good point though. Right now the app is only accessible on a phone, and only one message can be submitted per phone (based on unique phone ID, not user name) per day, so that should limit it some. However, if this becomes popular I will definitely need to code some countermeasures for bots. I think groups is a really cool idea. I am programming this in my free time for fun, but have a running list of improvements, I'll definitely add this. Thanks!
