A cool and easy to use infographic/calculator
Here is the breakdown in pie chart form. I will not say my earnings, but I will say I pay 30.2% in taxes. I'd say that's a pretty hefty amount.
I was 30.1%, so right there with ya. Also really sad to see only tens of my dollars went to "Space Operations", yet multiple thousands of my dollars went to "National Defense"... some of which, I'm sure, are for programs watching us to make sure we're being "good citizens".
I am honestly happy to pay taxes and wouldn't even care if they were higher, but only if they were spent more appropriately and on more beneficial things. I'm not anti national defense, but I'm definitely anti "national defense takes the biggest chunk of my taxes and in reality is actually national OFFENSE."
Awesome little website though, and very neat to see all the breakdowns.
As an American, I think it's because we see relatively little for it. Our tax rates are quite reasonable for a developed country, however the US government spends more on national defense than the rest of the world combined. IMO if we spent more of that domestically, taxpayers would feel better about what they pay. Actually, AlderaanDuran echoes this sentiment here.
I don't think my taxes are too high.
