Maybe it could be focused on online-available material? If so, I'd go ahead and suggest Roadside Picnic. It's a short story, so maybe people wouldn't have so many excuses to not read it. Plus it's excellent. I made a post about it a while back but no one seemed to look. It's a translation though and is a bit wonky at times--all the more fun for discussion.

Edit: I'd actually whole-heartedly advocate that the club revolve around short stories. I'd find it pretty disappointing if I had to read some 300 page book that I didn't find interesting just to participate. From a cursory glance at the last club attempt, it seems this was an issue that people had. If we stick to short stories we could sidestep this issue. It might make the club more viable. Personally I could see myself wary to commit to the club if it were books. With short stories though, I'm all-in.

I think that could be a good idea.

I think this is a great suggestion, I can think of several resources, like Project Gutenberg, through which a reasonable number of different books could be found for free.

I had been previously unaware. Unfortunately, blocked at work, but I will have to check it.
