Following on from BLOB_CASTLE it appears this is the week of Chicago area Hubski band demos. I play bass in this band and have become the de facto internet dude, which explains why I'm sharing this here.
We're playing out for the first time later this month at friends & family thing we set up at a studio in Aurora, IL. Thought we'd share some tracks in advance of the show. Here's a description I've written up for the band:
- All-Starlings started out as a songwriting project between founders Bryan Meier and Brendan McCormick. For years the duo spent countless hours writing, recording, and refining their sound - at times haunted, dusty, and lo-fi, yet routed through a distinctly Midwestern sense of time and space, expansive and pastoral.
Early in 2013, the band formed around a full lineup and will make their thrilling debut April 27th for an intimate friends & family show at Backthird Audio in Aurora, IL.
Thank you! I've enjoyed reading your comments on #music here, so it's nice to read your kind words pointed in our direction. We've been getting Sparklehorse a lot. I put Mark Linkous and Jason Molina as our only 'influences' on the Facebook page, so I guess it's more or less agreed.
Wait a minute, I just realized. I'm not going to be able to make this because I'll be on a camping trip at Starved Rock for my girlfriend's birthday. Do you know that you'll have another soon?
bummer, but no worries. i'd choose Starved Rock over a lot of things. we're hoping to have some bookers out to the show and use an audio/visual recording of it as demo material, so hopefully, yes, we will have another one. i'm working on some city gigs, too, but it's more likely you'll be able to catch us at the Roundhouse or similar, soon.
Alright man, let me know if you do get something else. You should try to book at the House Pub also. You'll see how awesome of a place it is when you go check us out.
This is great! Everything is tight, but loose enough to be human and emotive. I really enjoy this music and look forward to a more detailed listen with some nicer headphones. My only advice would be to consider a new bass player. -That guy is all over the place :) I look forward to hearing more. Nice work hiss!
Thank you very much! Will post more soon. We've got some work to do with the recordings, some are perfect as they are (i.e. these two), others need a bit of touching up and over-dubbing. It was all put together by Bryan and Brendan. As noted in my reply to fuffle, when I say "countless hours" I really mean it, they had been working together for years and just a few months together brought me and a couple other guys into the fold. Very excited to be working with them. Will hopefully have some sound/video to share from the thrilling debut.
Sounds nice and refreshing. How long ago did you guys start on this material? On a side note, why does hubski kill the links to soundcloud? I like that it embeds the player, but clicking the post won't take me to the actual website, where I assume you had linked to a page that has all these tracks layed-out. The same thing happened when I submitted a soundcloud link today.
I've been out to Backthird, I'll make sure to get out there for this!
