Facebook was hot when you needed a .edu email from a select few universities just to register. It was cool when any .edu email would let you register. It was slightly less cool when anyone could register. It became entirely uncool when your parents, teachers, bosses, and a billion other people joined. They ruined an exclusive club for keeping up with college classmates by turning it into the world's largest social network with no purpose.
They ruined it more when they changed the format from being about visiting individual people's walls to being about lurking on what everyone is doing/saying. There's a lot less genuine interaction and more of people posting things to themselves hoping friends will give it some kind of attention now.
