I'm a former Laboratory Medicine student in Australia. I decided to change degrees after my university decided that it wanted to force everyone into a year of placement for full time hours for literally zero dollars an hour. As I live away from home this would have destroyed me. I would have completely lost my social life and leisure time, so I decided to change to Molecular Genetics/Biotech only to learn that I can still work in the areas that I want, it may take a little longer but at least I'm not reduced to eating trail mix for 5 days a week. Currently I work in a pathology company, just in Specimen Reception (as lab techs require either a Certificate IV from a community college here, approx~ 2 years in other words, or a BSc.) and Aliquotting (you split samples for other areas). It's average pay and it can be repetitive, but I prefer it immensely to something like McDonalds. I'm also, thankfully, moving back home halfway through this year. It's been an experience living away from home and I'm coming away from it a little more knowledgeable about how to manage money and how hard it is to actually live away from home. Hobby wise I enjoy video games like Starcraft, Baldur's Gate I/II and DOTA2 as well as more traditional tabletop games like D&D and Warhammer (of which I hope to get back into properly once I move home. I also enjoy cars, I drive a Nissan Silvia that I love to death and is something that I will hopefully never give up. I'm in a long term relationship with a woman that I plan to marry one day (probably my early/mid 20's naivety speaking there), we're coming up on 4 years (relatively short to most, but we're going strong and fail to see why not continue). Her dad is a priest of a denomination that I'd rather not mention. Oh lawdy was that a lot, hopefully people don't use this info to steal my CC information or something.
I really enjoyed this. If I was good enough go get a badge it'd be on this comment.
