Marriage seems incredibly pointless to me. If you're committed to each other, great, but I don't get why you need the state to confirm this. If you get married, it should really be only for the economic benefits, and from a practical point of view, there's no reason to limit it to romantic partners.

If you're not sure what practical benefits there are to marrying, ask a gay couple who don't have that choice :)

I'm not anxious to get married myself, but I think if I decided I was willing to have children with someone I would want to be married to them so that we would be assured of rights like ICU visitation, inheritance, being able to be on each other's insurance as spouses if one of us were not working for a time, and so on.
