Hello hubskinites!!
It's been a second and a half since I hopped on here, but it's been on my mind for quite some time to share an update from the blobosphere.
A few years ago I started sending out newsletters to keep folks up to date on all the music and visual art I create, along with general life sentiments. I don't send the newsletters out too often, about 1-3 a year.
The title url of this post will take you to the most recent newsletter I just sent out today. In there is information on a drawing I made, an alabaster piece I sculpted, and a link to read my masters thesis which talks about the impact of the Spanish invasions of Abya Yala on indigenous identity.
If you'd be interested in signing up to receive the next one, you can sign up here.
Here are the previous ones, if you wanna check them out:
Super wonderful newsletter this time! Sorry to hear about everything but great to hear from you, and thanks for sharing.
Thank you for taking the time to check it out 🙏🏽 When I was living in Spain, I learned a beautiful phrase from a friend who had traveled to Valencia to also pursue his masters. The phrase is, "no hay mal que por bien no ventga" which transliterates to "there's not thing bad that good doesn't come from." I have learned so much about myself in the time since my divorce, and also in this time healing from the achilles rupture. The relationship was 14 years, and I'm only 33. I'm in the process of learning to walk again, literally and figuratively.
I gave one of your prints to my friends as a housewarming gift, but I haven't seen it hung anywhere. Which is fine, I've long since decided that it was already a very big victory, to give something one of my friends made to another friend of mine. I don't think I've ever done that in any other transaction, which is perhaps a sad commentary on both myself and society, but I wanted to thank you for being the most noteworthy if not the only opportunity that has come up. We all need to make more art I guess. I am currently working on a digital piece called "Black Hawk Tuah", which is about a fictional chinese black market Hawk Tuah crypto memecoin rug-pull reboot, and is helicopter themed, of course, but it got put on hold after that black hawk crashed last week. I had made it have a tail number "2-UH" and it turns out the blackhawks are helicopter model "UH-60", so that was weird to go through all in a few days last week. Are you still sculpting?? Jesus dude your sculpting... I cannot forget immense talent when I see it!
Thank you so much for this thoughtful response, this is the most emblematic reason why Hubski is so special. Thank you for the kind words, they are very profoundly received. Wow, that's quite the story about the piece you're working on. Will we have an opportunity to see it when complete? Haha yeah, still in love with stone sculpting 🤓 When I go to Guatemala (God willing), my goal is to start a stone sculpting school. The Mayans had a rich history of stone sculpting, and it was in the Guatemalan highlands where the peak of their art and intellect was developed. I want to a place where the people I share ancestry with can continue to develop the art of our culture, modernizing it to reflect the sentiments and aesthetic preferences of today. Here's a link to a google drive folder with images and videos I took on a trip with my father to the Mayan sites of Palenque and Bonampak in 2023. Their stone sculpting is exquisite~
