I have a friend who confided in me that he's carefully cracking out of his egg. Any tips at what I can do to be supportive at this early stage? Or what I shouldn't?

So all I could say is ask what would make them comfortable to do. Try using their preferred name and pronouns. What I DON'T recommend is to use said options around other people unless your friend says they're aware and are comfortable. You don't want to out your friend to strangers, It'll probably make them uncomfortable. but remember to discuss these boundaries with your friend. I'll always be here for other help if needed
