This is all over my Ukraine feed today.
I wonder what the appeal will be among the 50y+ population of Russia. Pugacheva's prime was the 80s, and she's been popular ever since. I hold little hope that swaying these people is possible – chances are, they're stuck in Putin's reality much like Fox News viewers are stuck in Trump's – but one must hope.
The protests in Russia aren't stopping. There are fewer of them, but Russians are finding new ways to speak up and expose Putin's government for what it really is. First, it was standing outside of a sheet with three and five asterisks on it (*** *****): a (self)-censored way to spell "нет войне", or "no to war", in Russian. Then, numbers started to appear: 35, for "three letters, five letters", or "нет войне", and 55, for "five letters, five letters", for "Путин – хуйло", or "Putin (is a) dickhead". (Rumor has it, Putin fucking hates being called "хуйло".)
P.S. Here's a sampling of Pugacheva's hits:
— Миллион алых роз (Million Scarlet Roses)
— Арлекино (Harlequin)
— Женщина, которая поёт (The Woman who Sings)
