We bought a house! The only thing that needs to happen now is to finish the mortgage application, but that should go smoothly. We got lucky and were able to buy off-market a house that the previous owners almost entirely renovated (which saves us a LOT of money now that materials and construction prices have doubled). They did such a solid job that we can already start thinking about the interior and furniture, instead of first having to think about renovations. The house is in a cute little car-free street and once we move in this August I’ll be able to bike to work in half an hour.
We got a realtor who was contacted by the owners, because a few years ago he had sold the house to them. The owners also asked another couple but they weren't interested, and they didn't want to put it on the market if it wasn't necessary, so we were the only party interested and were able to just buy it directly for their asking price.
Congratulations! Are 30 minute bike commutes common there? I want to work out how to commute by bike more often.
I put an offer on a house last week. I didn't get it and was one of ten offers. I'm looking at three more Sunday.
This time last year I was just transitioning off of swing shift/night shift. What a weird year it's been. From managing two shifts, composing 5 supervisors and ~115 employees, to then managing training and development for a factory, to leaving and moving a county away to much, much closer to the mountains and managing 4 employees in research and development. It's been a crash course in r&d and a new industry for me, learning data engineering & things like datalakes and how all of this can help improve r&d processes. Been a lot in 8 months and feeling like I'm just now really getting a hang of it.
