I gave my boss my resignation two and a half weeks ago, and he's yet to reassign any of my projects. This is a perfect example of his leadership.
My boss left a month ago. He and I put together a program that brings in $1m/year for the next 5 years. Nobody has touched it since he left. It is pretty much forgotten now. We are trained to think we are so important and critical to the operation of a business, that we fail to take days off and take care of our health, to serve the corporation. And then all our hard work gets abandoned the moment we turn our attention elsewhere.
The problem he's creating is these projects don't disappear without me, they just have poor handoff resulting in overworking the remaining staff as they find themselves further behind than they need to be. Work will still get done, but staff will be less happy and customers they work with, both internal and external, will be less satisfied. It's more likely an error will occur. I don't actually blame my boss. He's trying really hard. Failing miserably, but he's trying. It's his boss that's really dropping the ball by not recognizing the failing and stepping in to coach my team lead or taking control directly.
What has his boss been doing this entire time?
All I can figure is he's assuming things are fine if he isn't hearing about it. Which is ironic because when I tell him things aren't going well he responds as if it's my issue. "The squeaky wheel gets the grease." I think management as a whole figures if work is getting done that everything is fine.
