Is there a “so what” to this article? No shit there’s corruption everywhere in government and cool, examples of regulatory capture and lobbyism as de-facto governance. So...what’s the point of having written that out?
IMO it's worth agreeing upon just exactly how our institutions are failing us. It's nearly useless, if not counterproductive, to speak of corporate boards and cabals of billionaires as if they are evil, because our livelihood shouldn't depend upon whether they are good or evil. Evil (or even just vanilla greedy) and good boards and billionaires should be checked by a system that prevents them from benefiting by offloading externalities upon the rest of us. I have hope, however. I think people are wising up to the actual problem, and we are getting new ways for the masses to push back.
I keep coming back to Piketty arguing that socialists should run the economy for capitalists to do their best with. it's natural for the entrepreneurial spirit to be rapacious and greedy, while it's natural for regulation to overprotect the commons at the expense of wealth. America would NEVER come up with GPDR.
