In talking to my buddy Jim about something or other and it came up that he'd worked on the soundtrack to The Princess Bride while he was a studio tech at The Record Plant. I mentioned that it was easily one of my wife's favorite albums, that it had achieved an iconic status and was pretty much an indelible part of culture at this point and Jim was surprised. I told him that if he had any good Mark Knopfler stories my wife would be stoked to hear them. Jim scrunched up his forehead for a minute, stared off into the distance and said It was only like a day. We really hammered it out. Mark was a total pro, didn't need anything, and then the whole thing was overshadowed when Brian Wilson pissed on the tape machine in the next room over and we needed to get Doctor Landy to come shoot him full of drugs so we could get on with it. I really don't remember anything about it at all.
Thank you for this. That short little quip is one of the better stories I've heard in a while. I love me some Beach Boys lore. Did I ever tell you that when I first met Kevin Love I told him that I didn't follow basketball but the coolest thing to me was that he was Mike Love's nephew. Kevin was super cool about it. There's a long history in that band, but they really are American music royalty imo. Brian pissing on the tape machine... amazing.
