I did notice this was all being discussed at the same time as Canada, and some European countries started to get the ball rolling on their socialist relief packages. Personally, it seemed like Trump didn’t want to be outdone while every other country was saying you get a cheque and you get a cheque. It’s also the one time his base won’t be against government assistance and it’s likely they need it to now. CERB is doubling what I will receive a month as a tipped worker and I’m just saying Trudeau would have to fuck up big to lose my vote at this point. Trumps out here buying votes.
The original bill was fucking awful. It gave like $500m to the candy industry as grants and explicitly banned aid to anyone who took Medicaid. THAT was the bill Trump endorsed and railed against the Democrats. The one that got approved has none of Mitch McConnell's language in it. This is a near-total capitulation by the Republicans.
