Likely a helpful FYI for anyone experiencing symptoms, as Advil, etc., are a natural response to dealing with aches and fever.
UPDATE: The French health minister's claim is now being contradicted by the European Medicines Agency. I haven't seen data either way.
Seems like it's insane to give counter-indications on such issues. It's like there are two parents, one being the French Health Minister and the other the European Medicines Agency, and one says "you can go out to see your gf" and the other "you have to stay home". Fucking hell, how stupid can that be in a crisis. Just don't use ibuprofen and take alternatives that have less chance to fuck you up, why would you put up your health for gamble ? even if ibuprofen isn't a risk, just don't try it, because it might be. So upset by how western countries are handling all this.
Dr. Carlos del Rio, a professor of infectious diseases and global health at Emory University's Department of Medicine agrees. "I think the Minister of Health of France is wrong [in] prohibiting the use of ibuprofen based on limited data," he says. The World Health Organization is looking into the matter, says spokesperson Christian Lindmeier, "but after a rapid review of the literature, [the WHO] is not aware of published clinical or population-based data on this topic." A few media outlets have reported that WHO is now advising against using ibuprofen to treat fevers in patients with COVID-19 symptoms, but Lindmeier tells NPR that's not true. Advice From France To Avoid Ibuprofen For COVID-19 Leaves Experts Baffled Frankly, I don't know what to believe, I'm just sharing a counter article. But the European Medicines Agency issued a statement Wednesday saying that while it is monitoring the situation, there's "currently no scientific evidence establishing a link between ibuprofen and worsening of COVID‑19."
I mean, it's what you do. Standard Operating Procedure. Except maybe not such a great idea. I've seen trickles of this sort of stuff recently; my wife's groups are definitely all over it. What's heartbreaking is she's got stuff that came out last week that's already out of date so it's not like we can present any united front to every panicked human out there if the doctors have to revise their advice every 48 hours.
