As it should. Fun things are fun and shouldn't be looked down upon. Although some might view this as the mainstream co-opting "nerd" culture while remaining hostile to it.

Stranger Things is still g00fy though.

That's just another way of saying that antisocial loners are mad that people who enjoy the same hobbies as them still don't want to hang out with anti-social loners. I've spent my entire adult life al least knee-deep in "nerd culture" and only occasionally come in contact with those losers - they're quick to call other people "fake nerds" despite spending way less time actually enjoying the things they claim other people are only pretending to like.

D&D is more fun with people who have better ideas for adventures than seducing the tavern wench or minmaxing an elf wizard, anyway - having played with both types of groups of people.
