Eminem addressed this in an interview that he put out right before releasing this, and actually within the track itself. Different rappers feel differently about it. I believe that honor is worth something and a proper diss takes away from a rappers honor, if not their popularity. Basically, Eminem held off from releasing a MGK diss because responding to something as stupid and petty as Rap Devil (Seriously? Cheesy mother- ) would give validity to MGK as someone who is allowed to trade shots. Just acknowledging him gives him the reaction he wants. Simultaneously, Eminem has stated that he refuses to be a punching bag, AND he thought that he and MGK were close (Hence the line about an autograph for MGK's daughter) because they toured together at one point and Em helped him find a bigger audience. In this instance, I think that Em's fear is correct. MGK is more well known now than before this became a thing. However, laying the verbal smackdown is something that Eminem excels at and it makes everybody happy to see him dropping bombs.
I've been going through the archives a bit, so not sure any of this is new. Bonus: Saul Williams' NPR Tiny Desk Concert:In terms of sheer intensity, Saul Williams' Tiny Desk concert may be the most potent in our eight-year history.
tigrisandeuphrates's post led me to work my way through all of Aube's - Millennuim releases - next up is March 11th track 20000311 from Martius. Then I got distracted by the newly released Perseida by Ekaologic (last year's Light Seeds was in my top 5 of 2017. Not sure how well the new one stacks up but first listen it seems on a par. Have to listen a few more times, then... back to work
I'm your huckleberry. What are you in the mood for?
Some of the horrorsynth that I listen to would be good for that, e.g. this from Dance With the Dead or this album by Carpenter Brut. Some good bass-heavy examples from elsewhere (mostly industrial, and some of this you may have heard before): - Combichrist - get your body beat - Combichrist - What the fuck is wrong with you? :wumpscut: is great for this kind of sound. - wreath of barbs - thorns - bunkertor 7 - hang him higher - golgotha (this was the song that got me hooked on him) - capital punishment (this one has a build up, but is worth it...can't think of anything else that makes me want to bounce off the walls quite as much) - lilium - sleep inside (and really the whole album).BASS
instrumental, super delicate and folksy stuff
