What is the point of this? To give a pass to fascists because the concept of separation of church and state is new? They keep quoting this:

Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.

Which sorta contradicts this passage which is a little further down the page:

“Love your neighbor as yourself.” Love does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.

At least when it comes to things like slavery, genocide and child torture. Bear in mind that the author of the letter to the Roman Christians that these quotes come from had his fucking head cut off because he pissed off the government.

There's no partisan issue that led to you writing this that needs to be avoided. There a fucking issue of human decency that's hiding itself behind an R v. D conflict that shouldn't and really doesn't exist.

It's something I've been thinking about a lot lately and want to explore more. For obvious reasons. I'm not attempting to give a pass to anyone, or to justify or critique anything that's currently going on. Obviously the idea of religion and governance is something that has been with us for a long, long time, and I think it's something that can be analyzed without bringing up politics or current events.

I understand that you're angry. I understand why you're angry. I'm not going to tell you that you can or can't be angry or that your anger is either justified or misplaced. I myself have plenty of thoughts as to what's going on right now and I've made the choice not to share them. I'm not preventing you from sharing yours elsewhere, there are plenty of other opportunities to discuss them, here on Hubski in particular and the world as a whole. I just respectfully ask that this thread be free from current events.

I really didn't think you were attempting to give a pass to anyone because I know you. But maybe now is not the time for this discussion because there's an elephant in the room trying to pretend he's not following the Hitler playbook. So without the context given by a tiny website like this, it could come across as ignoring the greater context we are living in. There's no discussion to be had about this right now outside of the context of crying children who will go on to have life-long mental illnesses.

Thank you for giving me the benefit of a doubt. I honestly and genuinely appreciate that.

I don't really see it as a benefit of the doubt situation so much as a benefit of a small community where you can get to know the personalities behind the anonymous comments. But you're welcome.
