Not quite sure why (besides the obvious clave) but the original really reminds me of this mambo tune, check it out: Oh, also check out Jorge Drexler, he's Uruguayan and does mostly pop but his 2014 record Bailar en la cueva is more rhythmic and kind of pan-Latin American and it's incredible
