Interesting. When I sleep on my back I tend to snore, but not when I sleep on my side. I prefer to sleep on my side, but I end up on my back more often when I sleep on a hard surface, or don't have a thick enough pillow. I'm not sure if I experience apnea, but I am going to do what I can to maximize my comfort sleeping on my side.

For me it helps to use two thick pillows, even three if they are thin. -It helps to reduce the pressure on my shoulder. Also, our mattress isn't extremely firm. My wife had TMJD, but it went away after I convinced her to switch from one to two pillows, and she then slept more on her side.
