I would encourage you to read the Primer and the FAQ to cover the most basic… uh, basics. :P If you have some more specific questions feel free to ask them. Even if I can't help, someone will.

As for the 'how it actually works': you get to know other people, get yourself known, join in on the conversations and just keep in mind that it's better to write something longer/more insightful than "this is so cool" or "you are a moron". Either of those can only be improved by further context and perspective. Do keep in mind that as with most small communities it's a rather slowly paced place. On Reddit, you might not get five minutes without getting notified about a response. Here it gets much more leisurely.

Also, if you'll find an interesting topic that was created months or years ago, it can still be 'revived' and get other people to participate. Hubski doesn't block you from commenting by locking older posts in a read-only fashion.

Thanks for the warm welcome, I really appreciate it. Hubski already seems like a place I'd fit in- A cleaner version of Reddit's "style" (though a dark theme would be great) paired with a smaller community/more leisurely environment and the ability to revive old posts. Now all I gotta do is earn that promotion so I can become a more active part of the community!

Howdy! There are several themes to choose from. Click on your username, then find the Settings link on the left column, and on the Settings page, the right column is called "Aesthetics". This lets you tune your hubsperience.

I just switched to the Dark theme for the first time, and am going to try it out for a bit.

Dark theme is the only theme...

goobster got you covered. As far as exploring Hubski goes, I can tell you that unless you are going to click "inactivate account" there's nothing you'll regret (and even that is reversible as far as I know). Go to your profile, explore the settings, don't be afraid to ask if you are confused and generally get to know the place. Seriously, go around and click stuff to see how it works.

Actually, I can link you to some of the more 'advanced' features I found on Hubski:

It's a really cool site to explore and I can wholeheartedly recommend doing it. If you'll find a bug make a comment (or a post later on) about it and tag it as #bugski. mk is the site admin/owner/overlord so you might want to shout-out to him. How you make shout-outs? Click the 'markup tips' above every text field where you write your comments.

What kind of stuff would you like to post? I'm just curious.

I haven't quite decided yet, but I am into writing, so I'm thinking this might be a good place to share any examples of my work I feel are worth sharing. That and generally interacting with the community.

The Primer seems to be truncated

So it seems, thanks for pointing it! Here is an archived version that isn't cut short.
