Wait staff at chain restaurants are also getting the shit beat out of them. Tips are not great, the house is often skimming and the job can be brutal. This tends to create high turnover which means the staff that tends to be there is either really shitty at their jobs or working there just long enough to go somewhere they can do something better.

I think there's also a generational gap on that too. Anecdotally (of course), it seems like wait staff/help desk/customer service people are more likely to be mistreated by a boomer than a millenial. I assume that's because most millenials sympathize with having to work retail/wait staffing having done it themselves.

Which is of course not to say that you don't have polite and courteous boomers (like my mom most of the time who worked retail forrrreverrrrr... except she did tell me as a whippersnapper to just leave dressing rooms as is because it's the retail worker's job and "you're just going to do it wrong anyway") or entitled millenials.

also totally tangential but i can't wait to go back to the US and be "pestered" by waiters again. i way prefer that to having to drill daggers into the backs of European waiters' heads to even get them to look my way.

Krakow was fucking fantastic. I wish I had more time there and that my hostel didn't suck. Regardless, wonderful city full of wonderful people, food, and sights. Old town straight stunning though very touristy. Still spend some time there. Salt Mines are up to you. I was a little disappointed because my tour guide sucked and kinda rushed us though but still pretty cool and really unique place. Auschwitz. If you haven't been to a camp, go. If you have been to a camp, go. 2 hr train ride on a local train, though I think people tend to take busses. Wawel hill, definitely disappointed I didn't get to go there. I should have done the salt mines earlier in the day and wawel hill as an afternoon. Same with the Jewish quarter. I heard the food there is fantastic. Without a doubt I will make it back to Krakow someday. So fucking pissed I only really got one day in the city.

I've actually been trying to go to Gdansk. I went to Warsaw a long time ago and only did Sad Jewish Things, so I'd like to avoid that this time haha.

I'm traveling with my parents and then I leave in early August so no I'm tryna travel in June and July while Europe is still easily accessible.
