It's a holiday weekend for some, I know.
Anything fun going on?
Iiiiii'm Movin Out. Finally getting my own place with the bf, conveniently only a few blocks from where we live now. I'm glad all my shit still fits in the same amount of boxes I used when I moved in. I'm really excited to design a whole new space, and looking forward to re-upholstering some chairs.
The wife, dog, and I are going to jump in the RV, point it in a vaguely south-westerly direction, and head for the Oregon Coast. We will hit the Tillamook Air Museum, and the Tillamook Cheese Factory. Check out Astoria. Head down the coast to Coos Bay. Find a place to camp. Then head inland to visit a friend south of Eugene. Then probably cross the mountains and head north up the desert side of Oregon, into Washington, and back home again. Coos Bay: Eastern Oregon: I expect we will encounter many people and much traffic and ya know what? I don't really care. Gonna have my wife and my dog with me, and we will be able to stop whenever/wherever we want, and enjoy whatever we find there. It's gonna be lovely.
I did a workshop yesterday for women researchers, grad students, post docs, professors of CHEMISTRY. The topic they gave me was "How to be a confident leader and mentor." I'm happy to say that it went really well - lots of improv and roleplaying and challenging questions and discussion. The icebreaker was to finish this sentence and share it with the people at your table: "I am driven by ..." I'm happy to send anyone the pdf of my workshop if you know a woman who feels invisible and wants to build confidence. There was one man, a Chemistry Department Head at a university who came because he wanted to build the confidence of women in his department. He found it personally valuable too, so you don't have to be a grrlski. Today I'm working on another workshop on communicating nondefensively and waiting waiting waiting waiting for bf's flight back from Israel/Palestine - four more hours.
Nothing too exciting for me. I'm working some overtime, and recovering from last weekend. Then I'm off work for a week, with a plan to do nothing. Taking a week off of class, and sending my student to go work with his uncles for the week. I'll be taking a trip to the gun range most likely, will be catching up on my Greek and Coptic, and trying to get through my games backlog. My brother and I are going to try to finally beat Spacechem as well, even though that game (and anything else from Zacronics, for that matter) always makes me feel quite stupid after awhile. Also trying not to spend all my money on eating out because I get super lazy on days off. My wife will be home for the three-day weekend, and we're doing some intensive potty training on the kid. Nothing real planned on the holiday front because of that, which is fine, 'cause I always feel very ambivalent about forced patriotism anyway. Actually, and this is somewhat appropriate, a friend I used to train with will be in town, and we plan on doing some weapon training that day.
I'm planning on spendin' the weekend taking in the annual Busker Festival. It's also my sister's birthday, and (handily enough) she also wants to check it out. Which is kinda surprising, because she's always rolled her eyes at it in years past.
It was supposed to be great weather for it, but now they're saying we've got storms coming in this afternoon. We walked over last night, though. I ate way too many onion rings and then a guy juggled a chainsaw. Mostly, though, I enjoy watching the faces of all the people driving through the area who had no clue what the fuck was going on.
Finished one book (The Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg) and am starting Assholes A Theory by Jody Foster. Got yarn for some projects on sale and with a 20% off coupon on top and am going to finish up at least one crochet project. Other than that I am planning on being lazy and enjoying as much nice weather as nature allows for before the next three weeks of work attempt to rob me of what little is left of my sanity.
Tomorrow I'm running a 10k Trail Race, and then spending the rest of the day drinking. Hopefully on Sunday I'll be able to pull up to an open campground somewhere around here and spend the day hiking and then come back on Monday.
When I saw the word FUN, I was really hoping you were talking about DF. I'm glad I was not disappointed.
Going back home to celebrate my godmother's 60th birthday. Shashlik is a traditional Russian dish when it comes to dachas, as far as I'm concerned. Hope it's gonna be cold so I won't have to see the pests. Also, P.E. test tomorrow. 100m run, stretching/bending, pull-ups and something else I forget. I'm going to suck at one half of those and be decent at the other. Next year's gonna be a lot different.
On Saturday, I spent time with my girlfriend. I'm trying to write comedy skits and sketches with her. I wasn't going to do anything too big after our trip to Virginia Beach last week. Today, I didn't do much except go out for some errands with my aunt. I might not do much tomorrow. I may go out but it will be very lowkey.
I somehow have Sunday off so I'm trying to convince somebody to hike Mount Rundle in Canmore with me. I think I can convince a girl who's working the breakfast shift to come after. Otherwise it's just enjoying the summer weather whenever I can get it. Last week I went from sitting out on a patio in Banff all day to a snowstorm the next day.
