Let's not lose sight of the fact that Facebook is monetizing this. Technology has thrown up lots of new social challenges. But the scale of FB is just so huge that I don't think that effective moderation is possible as currently designed. With 1.9 billion monthly active users trying to control their interactions is like being the government of the biggest country on Earth.
