Who knew that the silver lining of Trump's presidency might just be a flame war with the worst faction of lawmakers since the Civil Rights era? I'll admit to have been fully anticipating an implosion ('explosion,' in the President's parlance) of the GOP, but I thought that he and the 'baggers would be on the same side. Sad.
I don't know. While I was literally giddy seeing Trump turn on the Freedom Caucus, I can't be sure it'll end in implosion for anyone. Everyone said that Ryan's aborted healthcare bill was a most embarrassing, devastating blow to the GOP. But I don't see that at all. I sincerely cannot imagine what will register as proof of defeat or embarrassment to the Republican rank-and-file voter. Trump's contortions, his transparently clear, bald-faced lying doesn't seem to make voters think twice (or once for that matter). I think the electorate is thoroughly co-opted--bamboozled into putty for an establishment serving rich people.
