I sound like I am turning into some sort of cryptocurrency freak, but I think that Ethereum has the potential to break this. There will soon exist the technological capability to pay artists and all the people involved in production directly as you stream the song, without anyone in between, and the music can be hosted without centralized servers. It's not going to be this year, or next, but I do believe that it is coming. The trick is making it so easy that we don't know the difference. This dark age will pass.
