Contempt for the opinions or desires of others is never a positive thing.

Does contempt for your own opinions/desires fall under the same category?

Because that's more the reason I posted it.

I meant more to discuss the article than to discuss your own reasons for posting it. I hate reading people who talk about others, even if it's under the guise of "sarcasm" as if their decisions are somehow invalid or incorrect based on nothing but ridicule.

Shame is a powerful tool for shaping behavior. I won't say if this is a good or bad thing.

Shame is okay, but it must come from a place where you truly understand and engage with the persons reasoning, and shame them for good reason, not simply because they disagree and you want to bully them.

Have any examples of what we might cautiously term 'pro-social shame?'

It's about showing that you understand and respect the other person's position. I can't really think of any examples, but I didn't read this article as something that was doing that.
