As some of you may know (and to the ones uninformed here is my Pubski post about it), I have an opportunity to be an exchange student to either USA or Canada (still researching schools and options). However, it requires of me a pretty good grade on IELTS and/or TOEFL. After taking preparatory exams, courtesy of my former high school teacher who was more than amazing to do something like that during summer break, I got to see my results. To say it like an optimist, my score leaves a lot of room for improvement. To state it bluntly, most universities require:
- IELTS - Composite score of 6.5 or higher and each sub-score should be 6.0 or higher.
- TOEFL - Internet based test (iBT) score of 80 or higher. To be considered competitive, a 90 iBT score or above is recommended. Sub-scores for each section of the TOEFL should be 20 or higher; OR paper-based test score of 550 or higher.
and while I don't have much of a problem with neither listening nor reading portion of either exam, speaking/conversation part went so poorly that I'm embarrassed to even look my score up. Writing was, and I quote my teacher, "(…) never your forte, but good enough for a dyslexic" that I'm choosing to translate to 'passable but I need to work on it' ;).
Could any of you guys/gals help me via Skype or Discordapp or other VoIP of your choice? It's not really something that I would call as urgent, but aside of taking up an English course (which are basically 90 minutes every week and for obvious reasons you talk only with other Poles) at my Uni or talking with one of the post-docs (who is from Netherlands, so hardly what you would call a native speaker) there are not that many ways for me to train this particular skill.
I know that it's quite a lot to ask, but if anyone would happen to have even as little as fifteen minutes to spare it would mean a lot to me. Time-zone difference is a nonissue for me, until my classes will start again in October I can deal with it just fine.
As far as compensation goes, I don't really have much to offer. If you would need some small piece of software or help with maths/physics/chemistry (up to university freshman level or so) I can return the favour that way. Alternatively I could translate for you something to/from German or Polish, but that likely assumes you trust my English in the first place :P.
